About Us

The Rotary Club of  Shillong  was charted on the 24th May 1957. The Chartered President of the club was Rtn RSV Mukherjee. It is the third oldest club in District 3240. The club have had so many stalwarts , leaders ,contributors and creative geniuses who helped the club achieve high standards in implementing service for the upliftment of various communities  of various communities in the society by and large.

The contributions of the Rotary club of Shillong towards society is immense. It would be difficult to list all the positive changes brought to hundreds and thousands of lives by the initiatives and projects undertaken by the Club all these years.

 

FEW IMPORTANT PROJECTS TAKEN BY RC SHILLONG SINCE IT’S INCEPTION.

  1. Donation of water filters ,desks and benches in Punlun School , Upper Shillong in the early 90 ‘s
  2. Furnishing of Children’s ward at then Roberts Hospital , Jaiaw and Nazareth hospital , Laitumkhrah , Shillong.
  3. An ICU unit was set by the club in Nazareth Hospital sometime in the mid 80 ‘s
  4. Rupees one lakh was donated to Mother Teresa for setting up Leper Colony in Nongpoh. The money was raised by a Walkathon inaugurated by Mother Teresa herself.
  5. Donated an ultrasound machine to Ramkhrishna Mission Dispensary , Laitumkhrah with matching grants from Rotary club of Sylhet ( Bangladesh )
  6. Donated one x-ray machine to Bharat Sevashram Sangha at Jailroad.
  7. The Club has undertaken free heart surgeries of more than 30 children  with congenial heart problems in collaboration with the Escorts Hospital , New Delhi.
  8. In the last 65 + years of service to the society , the most important Annual project of the club has been the Clean Drinking Water Project. The club provided clean drinking water facility to 27 schools so far and the process is approaching to another 23 poorest of the schools in and around Shillong.
  9. A number of schools were provided with new computer sets .
  10. With the aim of providing quality education to High school dropouts Bellefonte Community College (BCC) , with the help of RCS has set up a Computer Centre and an Intensive English Training System in 23rd July, 2011 ; inaugurated by Archbishop Dominic Jala.
  11. The RCS created the first Human milk bank in the local Dr H Gordon Roberts Hospital Shillong.  The project costing 10 lakh , was also funded by Rotary Foundation and two more clubs of USA and Bangadesh.

 

The Rotary Club of Shillong has done numerous vocational and community based projects so far and will continue to do so in the future. The Club has always led the way to generosity and is a firm contributor to the Rotary Foundation. So far RCS has produced two District Governors, Rtn Manas Chaudhuri and Rtn Dr Debashish Das. And the District Governor Elect K S Elangbam will take the office from 1st July 2025!

 

I, Rtn Chandana Das , President Elect , 2025 – 2026 is proud , happy and privileged to be a member of such a prestigious and philanthropic  club. And I look forward to an eventful , successful, productive and joyful Rotary Year 2025-26 in the club together with all the members of the Club !
